This is a picture of myself and Leon taken in 1977 just a few weeks after the opening of Leon's on Fillmore Street.  At that time, the area was somewhat like the "wild west", rather untamed.  But we had a real barbecue place - lots of smoke, some music (at times) and a lot of hungry customers.  The place did well!  Leon's signature large portions of good food in a friendly atmosphere.  After a year I decided that the long hours (I was holding down another full-time job) and the unpredictable help were more than I wanted.  So Leon and I parted as good friends and we remained good friends over the years.  Then in 1989 we reconnected in business and started Leon's food products.  Leon's barbecue sauce and hot links can now be found at over 500 markets in Northern California.

Leon was always generous in both spirit and in giving to others.  We will all miss him dearly and hope to continue his legacy.
